Laurie Ender is the current president of the Board of Directors for Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley. She joined the board shortly before the program began operations in June of 2011 and has become a vocal advocate for homeless children and families.
Ender’s community service experience is extensive. She has been the Santa Clarita Valley Council PTA president, a member of the board of directors of the YMCA and part of the advisory council for the Child and Family Center. Ender was also a five-year member of the City of Santa Clarita’s Parks, Recreation & Community Services Commission and served for a term on the City Council where she was also Mayor. She is a self-proclaimed cheerleader for the Santa Clarita Valley and maintains a passion for community collaboration and volunteerism.
After graduating from Pepperdine University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Ender worked as a producer for many years at both “Entertainment Tonight” and “Access Hollywood.” She and her husband, Chris, have three sons and have lived in Santa Clarita since 1992.
Diane McGrory has lived in the Santa Clarita Valley with her husband for 19 years, and been a reliable volunteer for several organizations. Diane graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a degree in communications. Diane has been employed as a book keeper on and off for the past 8 years. Diane has two daughters, two sons, a daughter in law and an adorable granddaughter. Diane is a passionate volunteer and was even recognized as one of five finalists as Volunteer of The Year in Los Angeles County in 2007.
Dee Dee has been supporting the very near and dear mission of Family Promise as an executive board member for the past two years. As a mother to a wonderful daughter and a SCV resident for the past 24 years, Dee Dee has been very active in the lives of the children the valley from PTA President at Helmers Elementary to PTSA President at Rio Norte Junior High, and the Director of Membership for the SCV Council PTA. She was also a member of the Parent Communications Council at the Hart School District. Venturing in to city planning, she was a member of the SCV Planning Commission for four years.
Amber has been involved with Family Promise since its inception and has co-chaired Family
Promise’s Box City event for the past 7 years. Amber is office manager at her husband, Kenny’s,
business, Fasthouse, in the Santa Clarita Valley. Fasthouse is rapidly rising in the ranks of
motorcycle gear and apparel, currently selling their brand worldwide and producing
prominently featured videos of their riders on social media and the web. Amber and Kenny
produce the Red Bull Day in the Dirt Motocross Grand Prix, a 3-day event in Southern California
held on every Thanksgiving weekend for the past 20 years. Locally, she produced the Over the
Hump Mountain Bike Race series at Castaic Lake. Amber has lived in the Santa Clarita Valley
since 1971 attending elementary school, junior high, high school and COC before moving on to
UCLA. Raising her family here, she volunteered in all the schools as her children progressed
Jerrid oversees a variety of projects in the City Manager’s Office, as Administrative Analyst; however, his primary role for the City is managing public safety services and issues in the City of Santa Clarita. Most recently Jerrid has become the City’s lead point of contact for local homeless issues. Jerrid began his professional career with the City in 2012 as a Recreation Coordinator and Program Specialist in the Youth Sports office and went on in early 2015 to worked for the City Manager’s Office as a Communications Specialist. Jerrid received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Master in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge.
The Reverend Melissa Roux MacKinnon is a native Southern Californian, born and raised in Glendale, California. She attended Herbert Hoover High School where she met her husband David. Melissa and David were married in 1991 and now have two sons.
Melissa received her BA degree in psychology from Cal State University Bakersfield in 1990. She had a short career working in the mental health field before hearing the call to ordained ministry. In 1999 she graduated with her Master of Divinity from The Divinity School at Duke University and was ordained a Deacon in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Then in 2002, Melissa and Dave had the opportunity to move home and serve at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Arcadia, California. Melissa has been appointed to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church as an associate pastor in July of 2002. In July of 2010 she was appointed as Lead Pastor of Santa Clarita UMC.
Jeff Meyer is the co-owner of a wealth management and financial planning firm in Valencia and leads an active life volunteering and serving with organizations in our community and beyond.
Meyer and his wife, Melanie, have lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for 28 years and built a practice with Thrivent Financial that focuses on helping individuals, families, small business owners and non-profits make wise decisions with money and live generous lives.
Meyer has for the past three years organized monthly work groups at the Habitat for Humanity Enriched Community (now Homes4Families) for military veterans and their family members in Santa Clarita. He and Melanie have also participated in Habitat trips to El Salvador, Macedonia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Meyer has also served as the president of Solheim Lutheran Home in Eagle Rock, a continuing care facility for the elderly, and was a member of the board at Trinity Classical Academy in Santa Clarita. He and his wife have also been volunteers and strong supporters of Soroptimist International programs for women and girls.
After graduating from South Dakota State University with degrees in Journalism and Political Science, Meyer worked for The Associated Press in Miami, Minneapolis and Los Angeles, before starting his financial planning firm.
Jeff and Melanie Meyer have one daughter, Meagan, a son-in-law, Josh, and a beautiful grandson, Krash.
Steve joined the Family Promise Board of Directors in February 2018. Prior to being with Family Promise, he was an executive with Entertainment Partners in which had oversight of Central Casting.
After 38 years of working in the entertainment industry he knew it was time to move on and spend his efforts helping in his community. After searching and studying non-profits in Santa Clarita he chose to work with Family Promise.
“One of the most important things to me is to help children have the opportunity to be happy and healthy. Every child deserves a chance to succeed in life!”
On a personal note, Steve is a husband, father and grandfather. He loves to golf, fish and ride his bike.
Steve is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently assists with the Public Affairs for the church in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Katie is a life-long Santa Clarita Valley resident who brings invaluable experience to the board after serving as the Executive Director for PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) for many years. She has a passion for the community and is excited to help Family Promise create new programs to address housing and funding needs for families in crisis.
