“Buy One, Give One” Program Helps Homeless SCV Kids

National Bedding Retailer Joins Forces With Family Promise

Along with all Southern California Family Promise Networks and our local Santa Clarita shelter, Bridge to Home, Family Promise of SCV will be hosting an event on January 25th, at 11AM, at Robert E. Lundigan Park, located at: 2701 Thornton Ave. Burbank CA 91504.

The event is taking place to support and promote a recent initiative "Buy One, Give One" sponsored by The Company Store, a major national merchandiser, who has agreed that for every comforter purchased through the program between January and March, they will donate another one to a child served by Family Promise affiliates around the country, including Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley.

Santa Clarita neighbors who are interested in participating in the program can shop by visiting The Company Store website, http://www.thecompanystore.com and clicking on the “Buy One, Give One” logo.  There is a special promotional code, “BOGO20”, available for purchasing the comforter that provides a 20% discount.

Do any of the people in the above picture montage look familiar to you? Perhaps there are a few people who would recognize those above, but for the majority of us, these people seem to be strangers. We would probably recognize these people better if we knew them or if somebody we know, knew them.

The above people have all been helped by Family Promise. They are regular people that have needed help at some point in their lives. They could be your next door neighbors. Maybe one of your reletives or perhaps somebody you know at your place of worship or a co-worker. They might even represent yourself.

Many of us go through our lives without much trouble at all. For some, life seems to be especially hard. Have you ever had your breath knocked out of you, you can not breath for a few seconds. You are down on your knees hoping for that breath of life to return. You are hoping some one will come and help.

Some families just need a helping hand to get through that short painful part in their lives, that is where Family Promise can help.

We are excited to be working with congregations and people of faith right here in our local community to bring hope and help to homeless children and families.
Family Promise is a nonprofit 501(c)3, non-denominational organization for families in transition committed to helping low-income families nationwide achieve lasting independence.  In more than 150 communities across the country, Family Promise networks provide safe shelter, meals, and support services to get families back on their feet, while addressing the underlying causes of homelessness.

Our local network is currently in the development stage, and we hope to be able to welcome guests in 2011.  Meanwhile, we meet on the third Monday of most months to plan, develop strategies, and pray for our congregations and the people we will serve.

If you have a heart for local families who need a helping hand to get back on their feet, you can make a difference through supporting Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley.
